Case Study: Raised Decking and Oak Sleeper Raised Beds in Kent

Creating a practical, low-maintenance garden with a raised decking, planted beds and improved outdoor living space

This landscaping project in Kent focused on turning an existing garden area into a more practical, attractive and usable outdoor space. The customer wanted a garden that felt clean, organised and easy to enjoy, while still keeping plenty of planting, greenery and character.

The finished project includes a large raised timber deck with curved edges, oak sleeper raised beds, feature planting, artificial grass, gravel details and surrounding paving. The result is a garden that feels modern, warm and inviting, with different areas for relaxing, planting and everyday use.

The Brief

The garden already had good potential, but the layout needed structure. The customer wanted a usable that could work for seating, entertaining or simply enjoying the garden.

A raised deck was chosen to create a defined feature space within the garden. The deck was designed with curved front corners to soften the look and help it sit naturally within the garden.

Oak sleeper raised beds were also added around the deck and boundary areas. These give the garden height, structure and warmth, while creating dedicated planting zones that are easier to maintain.

What We Did

The project included the construction of a large raised timber decking area, carefully framed and finished to create a strong, level and usable surface. The curved edge detail gives the deck a more bespoke finish and helps it feel less rigid within the garden.

Oak sleeper raised beds were installed around the deck and along the boundary. These beds were built to create interest, while also providing a neat way to contain the planting.

The planting was selected and positioned to add colour, texture and year-round interest. The mix of small trees, shrubs, grasses and feature plants helps soften the timber and paving, creating a garden that feels established rather than newly built.

The Finished Result

The completed garden is a calm, practical and attractive outdoor space that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

By combining timber, stone, artificial grass and carefully placed planting, the garden now has a balanced mix of structure and natural detail. It feels open and spacious, but still has plenty of interest around the edges.

This project is a great example of how raised decking and oak sleeper beds can completely change the feel of a garden.
